My First Fitness Blog (90 Day SSS Plan)

Welcome to my first blog, I'm totally new to this so bare with me. But before I begin here's a bit about me.

My name is Emily and I live in Essex, England (I don't own any white stilettos) I'm 26 and I work part time for a local company, along with having my own business doing wedding set ups. This is what I look like (not the bear):

So why am I doing this blog? Well I've recently signed up to the 90 Day SSS plan with the fitness god that is Joe Wicks. I remember seeing his videos on Instagram a few years back, and to be perfectly honest I found them annoying, however I thought the food he cooked looked really tasty as did he...

I come from a family that loves food, in fact I would say its almost an obsession! Over the years after being on MULTIPLE diets from Atkins, to my own 'Porridge Diet' (this consisted of one pot of ready made porridge in the morning and one just before bed.... yep! Bad, I know). I have finally found a diet I like, can stick to and is working.

After eating like an absolute pig over Christmas, and feeling, and probably looking like Santa himself, as a family we decided that Christmas break next year we would be sitting down as half the family we were that day, hopefully without the use of a chainsaw.

We had our last rights meal and when the revelry of the New Year came to an end we all joined gyms and started to eat healthily and exercise. My brother got Joe Wicks books delivered to his work where he could buy them for a discount price and he began doing the Lean in 15 Diet. We set up a WhatsApp thread and uploaded pictures to it so we could all keep track of what we were eating and in general motivate each other in our quest.

Jonathan (my only brother and arch rival) was uploading some amazing pictures of food. In our family we love to cook, we're not good at much but BOY can we cook - hence the clogged arteries and need to lose weight so it doesn't look like a Teletubbies reunion at a family party. He was uploading to our thread these amazing meals that take just 15 minutes to make, so I went out and bought the blue book for myself. Me and my mum started to make these meals on a daily basis and they are so good! I mean SO good!

So I started off having quite big portions as I had gotten used to eating the calories a small commune would consume over winter (it was all for insulation purposes I swear...) Then I've slowly decreased my portions over time. Now an average day would consist of:

  • Breakfast: Overnight Oats with Fresh Fruit

  • Lunch: Protein Bar

  • Dinner: Lean in 15 meal

  • Snacks: Fruit

That's basically it as it currently stands. Although I don't drink anywhere enough water, instead I have coffee and tea, I'm thinking this may be banned on his diet plan, and that scares me.

So on Friday 31st March 2017 (it's March and I still can't get used to writing 2017) I decided to take the plunge and sign up for the 90 Day SSS plan. Having seen multiple success stories on his Instagram page I decided - seeing as I have two months until I go away (Majorca) - that I would get two months ahead and absolutely boss it in order to look as good as I can on the beach. Usually I wear a vest on the beach because I'm too self conscious of my flub rolls, and to be honest this is uncomfortable, annoying and to be honest possibly as embarrassing as looking like a harpooned whale. anyway.

Back to the plan.

So I chose to split the payments over the three months, this is such a great option for me due to cash flow, and I love that it opens out the whole experience to people who cannot afford the upfront cost.

So the first thing I got sent through was a questionnaire, the first questions were easy - name, age, address, what foods you're currently eating, resting heart rate etc. However, one thing I was not prepared for were the photos, ok, in hindsight, I see the progress pictures on his page allllll the time on Instagram, however all I think is 'wow I love how these people have the confidence to be able to even take the picture, let alone post it online' Little did I think when I signed up I'd have to submit, front, back and side photos of myself in my underwear - even I don't know what I look like in underwear, I avoid looking in the mirror in changing rooms all the time, usually this will involve going in thinking how I'm going to look fabulous in these new clothes and coming out wanting to murderously rampage the entire shop with my bare hands in frustration (although some changing rooms I'm sure the lighting gives you more cellulite that you actually have.)

Back to the plan... again...

This was by far the hardest part, standing in your room in your underwear trying to get a decent picture, and not lose the will to live. I was torn between sucking my gut in or revealing the truth. I chose the latter. All I can say is I'm so thankful that I started this diet three months ago and wasn't faced with doing this after coming out of my seasonal food coma in January. Okay so the pictures were not as bad as I was thinking - Don't get me wrong, they weren't good by most peoples standards, but was I seeing myself as bigger than I am, possibly, and would I like them plastered all over the internet...? Not right now. But I will hopefully be able to in a few weeks time.

So now all I have to do is wait for my personalised programme to come through from the Body Coach Team and try to stay alive throughout the workouts - which are so so so much more horrendous than the gym. I've been running for 20 mins at the gym most days for a few months and it was a baptism of fire to do my first HIIT training session. You know when you see a fisherman take a cod out of water and leave it to die on the deck of a boat - flailing and gasping for air. I did that for a good two minutes after my first workout. TRUE FACT.

So, what will I be doing with this blog? It will be an honest account of everything I'm doing, eating, and how I rate the meals and everything in between. Hopefully someone will find it interesting and helpful towards their diet and future goals.

Thanks for reading.

Emily
